Corrugated Cardboard Prices on the Rise

Corrugated Cardboard Prices on the Rise

So far in 2025, we’ve already seen two rounds of corrugated cardboard price increases, with cardboard box manufacturers rising costs by between 4% and 7%.

These price increases have been caused by rising input costs, tax changes, and higher wages in the UK corrugated market. And it’s not over yet.

So, what does this mean if you’re buying boxes?

It depends. Every packaging supplier sources materials differently, so prices will vary, but the upward trend is undeniable. Whether you’re a small online business or a large-scale distributor, chances are you’re already feeling the pinch.

But while prices for new corrugated cardboard continue to climb, there’s one thing that hasn’t followed the same trend:

Used Cardboard boxes

Unlike new packaging, used cardboard boxes aren’t tied to the same volatile paper market. Instead, they can be overprints, excess stock or simply quality used boxes that would otherwise be wasted. Often from manufacturers, warehouses, and retailers who have no further use for them.

That means pricing for used boxes remains stable, even as new box costs surge. It’s not only better for your bottom line, it’s better for the planet too.

Why the rise in corrugated cardboard prices?

Several factors are behind the increase in new cardboard prices:

  • Rising labour costs in manufacturing and transport
  • Increased demand for paper, especially as eCommerce continues to grow
  • Mill-led price increases, which get passed directly down the supply chain

These pressures are making it harder (and more expensive) to source consistent, affordable packaging. For businesses relying on tight margins, this could have a significant impact on profitability.

The business case for used boxes

With no price hikes in 2025, used boxes are fast becoming the go-to packaging solution for businesses looking to reduce costs without compromising on quality.

Here’s why:

  • Up to 50% cheaper than new boxes
  • Consistent supply of popular sizes and types
  • Better for the environment, reducing carbon footprint and supporting a circular economy
  • Same quality and durability, often used only once before being rescued

At Reuseabox, we’ve already helped thousands of businesses make the switch to used boxes. And with cardboard prices on the rise, there’s never been a better time to explore the benefits.

With that all in mind, we have one question to ask you:

Do you really have to buy brand new boxes?
