March is B Corp month! The time where B Lab and the global B Corp community come together to celebrate everything it means to be a B Corp. The theme this year is ‘This Way Forward’ because B Corp is a journey, not a destination. This month we’d like to invite you to find out what the B Corp community involves and how you can join the journey towards better business.

Reuseabox’s Journey to B Corp

We started learning about B Corp in 2022. As a purpose-driven company we were eager to find a way of tracking our impact while connecting with like-minded businesses. One of the first things we did was to log on to the BIA and start answering the questions. It’s completely free to make an account and a great way to see what’s working well in your business as well as things you could work on. While we knew we were doing some awesome things at Reuseabox such as our cardboard reuse model, we also knew we could do even better. The questions are split down into 5 sections – Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. Answering the questions will tell you how many points you have. To qualify as a B Corp you need to get at least 80 points.

In May 2023 we achieved B Corp certification with a score of 90.7. We were over the moon to have achieved this on our first attempt. To celebrate we decided to ‘reuse-a-box’ with our announcement video. Check it out:

Life as a B Corp

As a certified B Corp, we’ve seen a huge range of benefits. The process has helped us cement our purpose and gain alignment within our team. We’ve been able to attract and retain high quality staff who believe in our purpose and values. We’ve found ways to support our local community through charity fundraising and volunteer days and we’ve built stronger relationships with our suppliers and customers. As an impact business we thought we were doing pretty well already but becoming a B Corp has helped us become even better for people and planet.

Join the Journey to Better Business

We’ve organised a range of events to celebrate B Corp month this year. To kick off we’ll be launching series 3 of our podcast Earth Your While. Our team will be working with the charity Protect Earth and using one of their volunteer days to plant trees in our local area. Later in the month we’ll be joining forces with other local B Corps to run an event aimed at helping local businesses join the B Corp movement.

Moving Forwards

As a B Corp we’re always moving forward. Later this month we’ll be releasing our 2023 Impact Report detailing all the great things we achieved in 2023 as well as our goals for 2024. In 2023 our biggest achievement was gaining B Corp accreditation. We were incredibly proud to achieve the accreditation on our first attempt. But we’re certainly not stopping there! We see this as just the starting point in our journey towards building a better business. In 2024 we plan to step up our impact. A second warehouse will help us divert even more used boxes away from the waste stream and back into reuse. The launch of our Charity Partnership Programme will see us support a local charity for the next 12 months. And through our partnership with 1% for the Planet we’ll be edging closer to our target of planting 1 million trees by 2030.
