How to pack electronic waste for recycling

Electronic waste can be difficult to pack. It’s bulky, heavy and rarely fits neatly into standard cardboard boxes. It should be packed as efficiently as possible for it to be shipped to the correct recycling facility. So what type of packaging should you use for your electronic waste?

Choose to reuse

Used cardboard boxes are low cost and environmentally sustainable. When you’re transporting a ‘waste’ item, it doesn’t make sense to use brand new cardboard boxes. Opting for once used means you can save money whilst packing in strong and durable boxes. When you choose to reuse you are also helping to keep products in use for longer and showing your commitment towards a more circular economy.

Pack your e-waste in pallet boxes or octabins

E-waste must be palletised before it is sent to be recycled. The easiest way to do this is by placing it inside pallet boxes or octabins and securing the boxes to wooden pallets. We supply both types of boxes to e-waste companies depending on their requirement.

Cardboard Pallet Boxes

Pallet Boxes are a popular option for waste companies, including those working with electronic waste. Pallet boxes come in a range of designs which can be well suited to packing large heavy items. Many of our used pallet boxes have a loading flap on the front and side, enabling the side of the box to be opened out to ease loading and unloading.

Our pallet boxes are supplied in strong double wall or triple wall strength fluting and the sides are stitched for extra strength. If you’re looking for even greater strength and stability we provide a once used triple wall box with an inner sleeve, providing even greater protection. The box itself is stapled to a wooden pallet and supplied with a separate lid. These boxes are great for reusing, reducing your cost and improving your environmental credentials.

Cardboard Octabins

With an octagonal shape, octabins are stronger than pallet boxes and are unlikely to buckle under extreme pressures. Their shape also makes them better suited to packing irregularly sized items as smaller items can fit into the sides of the box.

These boxes are ideal for companies who reuse the boxes. Due to their strength and high board grade, octabins can be reused a number of times before they are ready to be recycled. Many of our octabins have a crash lock base and outer sleeve for enhanced strength.

Ensure your boxes are secured to a wooden pallet

Used wooden pallets can be purchased separately, whilst some of our pallet boxes are supplied with wooden pallets attached. In all cases, when you have packed your electronic waste, ensure your load is fully secure by using pallet strapping to secure the box to the pallet. You could also use some pallet wrap.

Whatever your requirement, we have a large range of new and used pallet boxes and octabins. Check out our website or give us a call to discuss your requirements.
